Information About How to Request of Tax Returns Copy?

If you are going to file your tax return and you don't have your copies of tax returns documents, you may contact the IRS to request for a Tax Returns Copy. You can request for the copies by calling 1-800-829-1040 or visiting the official IRS website. The tax return transcript that you ask for will show information from your tax return as it was initially filed. The information supplied on this copy will be appropriate for use when you are applying for loans and mortgages.

First: Go to the IRS website and visit the page "Need a Copy of Your Tax Return Information?" linked in the Resources section.

Second: Click on the link to download the IRS Form 4506T. You will need to fill out this form to request copies of tax returns. This form is in the PDF format, so you will need Adobe PDF Reader to view it. If you do not have Reader on your computer, you may download it from the official Adobe website.

Third: Print out IRS Form 4506T. You will need access to a printer. If you do not have a printer of your own, visit your home library. Most libraries will permit you to print out papers for a small fee, generally around ten cents per page.

Fourth: Fill out IRS Form 4506T. You will need to fully fill out the form with accurate information. The information requested on the form will be basic questions, such as your full name, address and Social Security number. You will also need to provide the year of the tax return copy you are requesting.

Fifth: Mail IRS Form 4506T to the IRS. You will be able to find the proper mailing address on the bottom of the form.
